What is an in-line pump?

An in-line pump is a type of centrifugal pump that has a vertical pump shaft, with inlet and outlet connections in the same line. These pumps differ from most other pumps in that the fluid enters and exits in the same direction. Single stage pumps only use impellers to drive liquid, as opposed to other more complicated systems using push-pull pistons.

They are commonly used as circulator pumps in situations where water flowing through a piping system needs to be pressurised.

Probably the most common application of this type of pump is in domestic hot-water heating systems.
